David Thomson & family



David Thomson, the son of the late Kenneth Thomson, 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet, and Canadian businessman, was born on June 12, 1957. He completed B.A in history from Upper Canada College and in 1978 finished M.A in history from University of Cambridge. Since 2002, he has been the chairman of Thomson Corporation. In April, 2008, after acquisition of Reuters Group Limited, a former financial market data provider and United Kingdom based news service provider, he became the chairman. He has also worked in diverse positions as a manager of The Bay store at Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke and later as the President of Zellers, which is called to be the Canada’s second-largest merchandise department stores. He established and operated Osmington Incorporated, a real estate firm. He, along with his younger brother Peter Thomson, serves his family’s investment concern, Woodbridge.

Besides, they own dozens of TV channels and radio stations, CTVglobemedia, Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail.

According to Forbes Magazine 2010, David Thomson family is the richest family in Canada and the world’s 20th richest with net worth $19 billion fortune.
