Getaround is a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace that enables car-owners to rent their cars to a trusted group of car drivers by the hour, day, or week. Car-owners do not have to waste their time in finding out the trusted drives; they can accomplish the whole task through using the Getaround website or their smartphone. Getaround was founded by Jessica Scorpio with co-founders Sam Zaid and Elliot Kroo in San Francisco. They aspire to empower people to travel with ease and assist those who wish to use mobile technology to create sustainable transportation solutions. Currently, they have raised $3.4 million funds and have more than 5,000 sign ups for the peer-to-peer service.

Jessica Scorpio says, “Getaround gives people more choices, going far beyond traditional rentals to provide more local and affordable alternatives. We’ve also found that our members like the “community building” aspect, where Getaround connects them with people who share similar values and interests. As an added benefit, we help people protect the environment by sharing resources, taking unneeded cars off the road and reducing traffic and auto emissions through better planning.”

Prior to Getaround, she finished newly launched program called the Graduate Studies Program from Singularity University. The program was launched by Ray Peter Diamandis, Kurzweil, NASA, and Google to emphasize on encouraging leaders to introduce and accept humanity’s greatest challenges. On completion she served as a political adviser to the Minister of International Cooperation as well as a writer in a branch of the Prime Minister’s Office for the Government of Canada.

Calling Getaround an innovative concept would be entirely wrong. In fact, peer-to-peer car sharing is older than Facebook and LinkedIn. It just is that Jessica has done it in more organized way and successfully utilized Smartphone devices. In coming months, we will see several such networks emerging in different parts of the world.

By the way, she is not the most beautiful face in the biz world :-)

      Thanks for your comment Tiffany!
I agree to your saying that Getaround is not the pioneering concept and there have been similar networks around for quite sometime now. However, you’d agree to my point that she successfully took it to the masses and paved the way for other entrepreneurs to work on similar concepts in different parts of the world.
